A Look at How the 2010 Stand Tall Foundation Scholarship Winner are Doing
As we approach the selection of this year's scholarship winners, we're following up with the past 2010 Chris Duhon's Stand Tall Foundation Scholarship winners. Below is an update of what they are up to:
Adam Beasley
College/University: Samford University, Birmingham, AL
Year: Freshman
GPA: 3.76
Major: Biology, Minor in Spanish
Adam is currently the founding member of Samford Crew, est. 2010, and am now the President for this spring as well as the 2011-2012 school year. He was recently hired to a freshman Resident Assistant job for the coming school year. Adam is an associate member of the pre-health society Alpha Epsilon Delta, a member of the Biology honor society Beta Beta Beta, and he was inducted into the National Academic Honor Society for Freshman Alpha Lambda Delta with a 3.76 GPA.
Michael Braud
College/University: Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, LA
Year: Freshman
GPA: 3.3
Major: Nursing
Michael got involved with the LSU Ambassador organization at LSU which has completely changed his life! He was selected out of 400 students to be a part of the organization that helps run LSU, whether it is volunteering to help multiple events at LSU or orienting new students during the Summer Orientation and Spring Invitational. They also serve the community in all sorts of events such as Relay for Life, Buddy Walk, Race for the Cure, and Habitat for Humanity. He recently presented at the Southern Regional Orientation Workshop (SROW) about the benefits of a Parent Orientation to multiple universities across the south that came to Baton Rouge for the conference, and it went extremely well. Michael made the Dean's List for the first semester! He also recently got a job on campus working for Law Enforcement Online! Outside of school, he was just recently casted in the musical, RENT, in Covington, and will find out shortly if his musical, The Subway, is accepted at the New York Theatre Workshop! On a side note... Michael and Brittany Bruhl are in the same residence hall and run into each other a lot and we always like to brag about our autographed "Chris Duhon" book bags!
Brittany Bruhl
College/University: Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, LA
Year: Freshman
GPA: 3.3
Major: Kinesiology - Human Movement/Pre-med
Brittany was named America's Favorite Homecoming Queen, a very unique Selection, since participation is by invitation only. To qualify, you must be a high school homecoming queen, football or basketball. Brittany represented Louisiana and was presented with a scholarship. She is heavily involved with the local community, working with the Habitat for Humanity. She raised money for American Heart Association (Heart Team Walk). She participated in CANapalooza - Helped collect thousands of cans as donations for the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank. She Volunteer at Boys Hope Girls Hope. She has supported Chi O's Rock for a Wish, collected Pink lids for Breast Cancer awareness, and she fundraised for Children's Miracle Network
Mary Zar
College/University: Southeastern Louisiana University, Hammond, LA
Year: Freshman
GPA: 3.0
Major: Psychology
Mary earned a 3.0 GPA last semester with 12 hours, and still maintaining a 3.0 this semester with 15 hours. She is still actively involved in the Slidell Soup Kitchen. She is also working 30 hours a week as a Pre-K teacher's assistant at Primary Colors in Covington.
